Walking to one’s table in this one of Milanese gourmet restaurants feels like the green mile down a Gucci catwalk during Milano Fashion Week, past a tiered audience of diners scrutinizing your ill-advised non-Gucci outfit. In fact the sharp, dark chocolate interior is so Gucci that the label hosted its new designer’s launch party here.
Fashion friends Gianfranco and Marco opened Eda in March 2004 (Eda was in fact Marco’s late aunt who said in a dream that the restaurant would succeed). And its simple formula is filling the till and the tables: traditional Sicilian cuisine (delivered in nouvelle cuisine style and size by beautiful and cool young waiting staff) in an aesthetically pleasing modern space, minimal but for eclectic touches such as tartan sofas and stuffed animals.
Aperitivo can be sampled at the circular island bar, a live DJ takes to his decks at the weekend, and a classical quartet plays to brunchers on Sundays. In fact, it’s surprisingly easy-going and friendly – although it does help if you’re wearing Gucci.
