ekki BAR & GRILL
There is one discrete side entrance worth seeking out among the flurry of shiny, gleaming new skyscrapers that increasingly define the up-and-coming financial district Marunouchi. It leads to the discrete confines of one of the area’s best gems: Four Seasons Marunouchi.
Visitors should make a beeline for the seventh floor ekki BAR & GRILL. Minimalist lines with warm fabrics and wooden floors accompanied by live jazz performances create a cool urban backdrop. But as is often the case in Tokyo, it’s the sprawling city views that steal the show: watch an aerial view of a bullet train pull out of next door Tokyo station or the shopping crowds heading to nearby Ginza.
The menu is almost as attention-grabbing as the views with its fine selection of meats: from top-grade five Kobe beef tenderloin to breaded Iwachu pork chops, meat is celebrated in all its glory (washed down with a fine selection of New World wines). Non-carnivores, however, need not run for the door: fish and seafood also feature heavily, with recommendations including a daily carpaccio from the city’s famous Tsukiji fish market, steamed Aichi mussels and Hokkaido scallops with poached egg.
