Epic Roasthouse

Worshippers at the altar of steak, rejoice: The Epic Roadhouse fulfils all your wishes for steakhouse restaurants in San Francisco, with a spot on the Embarcadero that can fill just about all of your desires. The brainchild of famed restaurateur Pat Kuleto and acclaimed chef Jan Birnbaum, Epic Roasthouse is a feast for the eyes and the palate. Mixing elements both industrial and homely-think exposed steel pipes mixed with rich fabrics and a massive fireplace-the interior feels grand and comfortable at the same time. Pat Kuleto designed the space to resemble a pump house, which would’ve been very useful during the fire after the 1906 earthquake that leveled the city. A replica of the kind of pump used during that era is the focal point of the room, along with a massive wood-burning fireplace. As for the food, well, the meat is where it’s at. Dry-aged steaks are available in several cuts, such as a wood-oven roasted rib eye for two or a classic New York strip. There’s also prime rib, on the menu every night until 8pm. Choose from four cuts of beef that are dry-aged in-house for 28 days. Diners are 40-somethings who come here for an Old World feel and a completely contemporary menu. This is one of the few restaurants with a water view where locals actually eat. Request a table with a view of the Bay Bridge.
