Esca’s young-ish man and the sea, chef David Pasternack, is known to take rod and reel in hand and catch his own sometimes. But more than the novelty of having a fisherman chef, Pasternack is a man who cares deeply about the quality of those swimmy creatures that wind up on your plate.

His crudo is near legendary in this town, and his branzino may make you weep when you walk outside and realize that, no, you are not in Otronto, Lecce or Sciacca, but never mind.

Mario Batali and Joseph Bastianich are the muscle behind this mare-based eatery – that coupled with Pasternack’s bi-weekly changing menu and amazing wine list (it’s stacked on shelves on the walls like the best library you’ve ever seen), lauded by chef Sam Hazen, you’ll wish you could drift out to sea on this boat every day.
