Ett Hem

Staying at Ett Hem is like visiting a friend’s house; albeit a friend with exceptional taste in interior design (and an eye for sumptuous vintage and contemporary Scandinavian furnishings) as well as serious skills in the kitchen. This elegant 12-room hotel, housed in an early 20th century Arts and Crafts mansion in Stockholm’s leafy embassy district, is the result of the collaboration between owner Jeanette Mix and interior designer Ilse Crawford.

Here, guests are free to explore the garden, relax in the candlelit drawing room, take a turn tinkling the ivories at the grand piano, or pour a drink from the honesty bar. And when it’s time to dine, the seasonal and supremely local cuisine can be enjoyed anywhere from the book-lined library to in the kitchen with the chef. After all, the name Ett Hem does means home.

Meanwhile, upstairs, the 12 guest accommodations have been individually styled to perfection using natural, neutral tones and plenty of Swedish materials, from oak and sheepskin to Gotland stone; though the suites throw in decadent marble-clad bathrooms for good measure. There are Kiehl’s products in the bathrooms, a Sonos sound system, and even an iPod for your own use. These are the kind of rooms where you can curl up in an armchair (or a chaise longue, if you happen to be in the Suite) in front of the wood-burning stove and, most likely, wish every day was the same way.
