Gimicky? Maybe. But for those of us who appreciate a good olive oil, Extra Virgin (as the name would infer to the non-Madonna foodie fans) not only has creative Mediterranean-skewed dishes, but a rotating roster of outstanding olive oils that hail from the world over.
EV strives to be a neighborhood joint, and with that doesn’t accept reservations for parties over six and encourages coupley dining by offering their classics for two menu – nightly specials made to share, like the Tuesdays red-wine rich coq au vin and Sunday’s spaghetti and meatballs.
Inside, it’s all raw materials done up prettily – exposed brick, wood-slab walls that look like a cork sliced in half, broad, smoky mirrors, and tin ceilings (this is the West Village, after all). And if you ask chef Harold Moore, he’ll tell you it’s an unsung spot that deserves more credit than it receives.
