Hg2 : The Hedonist

Eyre Brothers

In recent years, the influx of artists, designers and fashion folk has turned Shoreditch into one of the capital’s most ‘street’ areas – and there’s certainly no shortage of places to eat in London’s east to keep the young population watered and fed. But Rob and David Eyre’s eponymous restaurant stands out. Housed in a former warehouse, the smart mahogany and leather dining room has a grown-up edge that others in the area lack. The same is true of the food. With inspirations drawn from Spain, Portugal and Mozambique (where the brothers spent their childhood), this is vibrant modern Iberian cooking with a generous soul. The restaurant attracts both hip locals and suited-and-booted trade from the nearby City. The brothers say they wanted it to be the sort of place where they themselves would be happy to while away the hours. Given that Rob runs the front of house and David spends all his time in the kitchen, that obviously wasn’t a bad idea.
