Italians don’t often come this chic in Almaty. The menu reads like a roster of the great Italian classics, from aubergine parmigiana and osso bucco, to ravioli and tiramisu. Chef Marco likes his truffles, adding a liberal sprinkling to some pasta dishes and fillet steaks as he goes. The pork with gorgonzola and a side of creamy risotto is a delight, and the pasta excellent, but if you’re cursed with a sweet tooth it would be a sin to leave without experiencing the ‘symphony of desserts’; a beautifully-presented morsel of each dessert on the menu. Wines are generally Italian (and not cheap), and the requisite ‘shisha man’ even has his title embroidered on his shirt. Backlit floral silhouettes, portraits of classic female film stars and chandeliers suspended within bare brick cupolas provide a striking backdrop to your meal.
