Faulkner House Books
William Faulkner wrote his first novel in this elegant study located off an alley behind the St. Louis Cathedral, now the Faulkner House Bookstore. During the year the young Faulkner spent in New Orleans, he also made friends with Sherwood Anderson and founded a literary journal. Today, Faulkner’s old study is a bookstore offering carefully selected fiction, and through the readings offered by the Pirate’s Alley Faulkner Society (see wordsandmusic.org for events), acting as a center of New Orleans literary life. You might feel inspired to write your own novel while standing under the brass chandelier in the room filled with framed photographs of famous authors.
