“That cheeseburger,” diners were heard whispering after dining at Ferdi in Paris. And again when they heard that London was getting its own branch. It’s a burger that’s brought its hype across the channel, and is once again garnering something of a cult following.
Enough to prop up a new restaurant in London? It appears so. The newest Ferdi is, in true Parisian style, fairly bijou, with plenty of dark wood and splashes of red in the tablecloths. But it’s cosy. And happily manages to avoid being chichi, thanks to quirky additions like the stuffed teddies in the decor. The original was beloved by models and celebrities from Gigi Hadid to Kim Kardashian and it’s looking like the newest branch is quickly going the same way. Thanks, in part, to its elegant Mayfair location and the comfort food on the menu.
But the burger stalwartly remains the main event and it’s a tempting one; after all, it’s hard to resist a burger that managed to convince many a model to, well, eat. But there are other options, from salad and salmon with blinis to mac and cheese, on the menu as well.
Ferdi is a family-run space, named for Ferdinand, the founders’ son, and you can feel it. It’s a welcoming, unpretentious restaurant that’s sure to be on many “best burger” lists for years to come. Just be sure to make a reservation on the text-only number before you go, just to be safe. You don’t want to get in a brawl with a hungry model for a table.
