Fischer’s
The newest restaurant in the Corbin & King empire has taken to its Marylebone home with ease. With no apologies given, the vision for Fischer’s – a throwback to early twentieth-century Vienna’s café society – is carried out to the extreme. Think: dark wood, mirrored walls, ornate furniture and big clocks. Look closer, and you’ll find the Fischer name everywhere, from the artwork to the napkins. This is one restaurant that’s consciously forging itself into a longstanding establishment, and so it should. Long may it serve schnitzel, we say.
Indeed, the mittel-European menu runs from the range of aforementioned wonderful schnitzels to an extensive selection of würst (that’s sausages to you and me). There are even some lovely strudels for pudding. At teatime they offer traditional biscuits and konditorei (pastries). The drinks menu showcases the best of Austrian, German, Hungarian and Alsation wines, with most being available by the glass, as well as a tempting selection of coffees and hot chocolates. If you’re a fan of both, don’t miss the Überstürzter; a rich concoction of espresso and chocolate poured over whipped cream.
As is becoming the norm at Corbin and King establishments, the food at Fischer’s is exceptional, the attention to detail second to none, and the service attentive, friendly and knowledgeable.
