If time allows, any visitor to Stockholm should venture out into the archipelago for lunch at some rustic inn on one of the islands. The trouble is, you really need to allow a whole day to do so. If time is short, or you’d rather spend your visit exploring the city, you can get a taste of the archipelago experience by sailing for just 30 minutes from the centre of the city to Fjäderholmarna (the Feather Islands). Here you can eat on the deck at a classic red wooden building, right beside the waves, and watch the ferries heading out to the islands.
It’s best to have a reservation but if you don’t, try to be first off the ferry and walk briskly to the restaurant and you’ll often be able to snag a table. Needless to say, seafood is the thing to order here.
