Flemings Mayfair
Thanks to a recent injection of a casual £15 mil, Flemings Mayfair is back and even swankier than before. But this is a hotel that’s never been drab. Dating back 1851, Flemings Mayfair is one of the oldest hotels in the city – itself lavishly created out of 13 sumptuous early 18th century Georgian townhouses. And now it’s even more luxurious? In a word – yes.
Many of the original features have been lovingly coaxed back to life in the restoration. The 129 guestrooms have been buffed until they gleam; all clean lines, deep colours, and soft, begging-to-be-touched velvet upholstery. And, while undeniably contemporary, there are nods to the 1930s in design and choice of colour throughout, with plenty of bronzes, blues and light greys. The beds, meanwhile, are hand-stitched, hand-tufted and hands down some of the comfiest you’ll have ever experienced.
Guests can also now enjoy the fine cuisine of Michelin-starred chef Shaun Rankin at Ormer Mayfair. This proudly British restaurant is a jewel in the already mega-watted crown of Flemings Mayfair, with accomplished dishes and an elegant aesthetic. The hotel has a bar as well, which is resplendent in 1930s style – all black upholstery and rose gold accents – and an afternoon tea lounge, which serves wine and Champagne throughout the day alongside a wide variety of teas and an Indian-inspired food menu.
