Eschewing pretty décor, Footwork gets down and dirty with the business of electronic dance. Given its location (between the club district and King West village) and its last-call at 5am, it experiences mass influx after-hours. As a result, it attracts an eclectic mix of tuxedo-wearers and the trainer shod, all facing the DJ booth to pump their arms in homage.
Without a disco ball or chandelier in sight, the focus here is the music: a selection of house, drum and base, and trance. The look might be a touch dingy, but the atmosphere is warm and friendly (a pick-up joint this is not). There’s a small seating area, but a stellar sound system will nix conversation – here it’s all about your fancy footwork. Local DJs rule the roost on Friday nights, while Saturdays open up to international DJs.
