Freni e Frizioni
Freni e Frizioni is one of those brilliant bars in Rome which are great all day long for a breakfast cappuccino or light lunch, but it really comes into its own with unencumbered hedonistic boozing every night of the week. Regular art shows from contemporary artists line the walls, complementing the ramshackle furniture and even more rambunctious revellers. As at Societe Lutece, a buffet of healthy delights is served up every evening from around 7 ’til 10, when the price of a wine/beer or cocktail will be marked up to include free gorging. Take note that it gets very busy, so it’s not advisable if you get claustrophobic in crowds. Be warned also that measures can be eye-wateringly strong, and admittedly the baristi can be a little limited in expertise. To stay on the safe side go for a mojito or caipirinha, all of which will have you weak at the knees – that is, if your heart isn’t already melting from the sight of all the young beauties cavorting in the square.
