There are worse ways to spend a Sunday than in one of the many cafés in Sydney. Only a hop, skip and meander from the sands, park yourself on a bench outside Gertrude and Alice – newspaper spread on the table, munching a blueberry bagel or scrumptious bircher muesli topped with rhubarb and yoghurt and you’ll be a very happy Sunday almost-Sydneysider. The café is also famous for its steaming pots of Chai tea. If you too become enamoured, you can buy packets of it behind the counter, along with an interesting range of second-hand books. Allow yourself some time to savour the shelves and pick up a vintage Penguin classic or a well-thumbed Hemingway.
