Ghetto
Misnomer galore. Unless that is, the word “ghetto” conjures up images of a split-level interior, almost 150 square metres worth of dance floor, and a lofty, arching ceiling modelled after – you guessed it – Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel. The club, a former bakery, serves up world music, jazz, and Turkish rock. During the summer – theme alert – the action moves to the rooftop, where Ghetto’s restaurant, Feraye, turns into a dance floor after 10pm. A new addition for 2010 was Metto. This traditional-style meyhane restaurant dishes up Ottoman and Balkan meze, perfect for nights of raucous singalongs to the fiddle and drum of Anatolian gypsy beats. In 2011 Ghetto’s third-floor Session room chimed with a new appreciation of acoustic and one-off sets. Its retro stage and funky armchairs are the place to see experimental DJ sets, live concerts and other boutique events.
