Gianni
Set in amongst sculpted topiary, sparkling mosaic tiles, and walls of wine bottles, diners at Gianni can be found, week-round, enjoying fine Italian cuisine. The restaurant menu showcases all the classics: pizza, pasta, and parmesan as far as the eye can see. Speaking of parmesan: the Tagliolini Saltati Nella Forma di Parmigiano con Tartufo is a real show stopper. Definitely one to order if you want to find out what tagliolini pasta made in a parmesan wheel (with black truffle) tastes like.
For the more carnivorously-minded, Gianni has an impressive selection of meat and fish dishes. We’re talking grilled sea scallops and salt-baked seabass, rosemary and garlic-spiked lamb chops and the epic Bistecca alla Fiorentina (that’s an expertly grilled t-bone steak served the Florentine way – read: lots of delicious olive oil).
The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, but if you find yourself in Tallinn’s Sadama neighbourhood around breakfast – fear not. The cafe at Gianni serves everything from omelettes and oatmeal to sweet and savoury pancakes – the latter comes with a creamy salmon sauce, which is sure to get your day off to a good start.
While there are all manner of Italian treats on the dessert menu, don’t forget to spare a thought for the drinks menu. There are 10 varieties of grappa on there alone, and a decent selection of dessert wine, to boot. Not a bad way to round off the meal.
