Gibraltar, or ‘hibraltar’ as it is pronounced, is as close to an English public house as you will find in Buenos Aires. No, you’re quite right – you didn’t come to BA to drink ale in English pub surroundings; but justify this outing to Gibraltar with the lure of the bar’s original Pacman machine, pool table and the fact that San Telmo is not really a chichi bar hotspot.
rnSo if you are fancy an early evening pint you might as well do it properly, at Gibraltar, which comes complete with pint glasses, seriously hot curry, pub loos and a resident dog that walks around waiting to lap up the spillage. The owner also owns Bangalore Pub and curry house around the corner from Carnal in Palermo Viejo. Up there you don’t need an English pub. Down here in San Telmo, however, Gibraltar is a godsend.
