Lying at the Western end of the new Boulevard extension, due to open in early Summer 2010, The Golden Coast, also opens its doors in early summer (inshallah) and is the latest glitzy offering on the buffet of the Baku luxury hotel scene. Here, space – and opulence – are the name of the game. From the marble-floored, palm-lined reception to the Louis XIV style furniture in the golden-domed, er, Golden Bar, you know this is one place where less certainly does not equalrnmore. Rooms are very generously proportioned and, while the carpets tend perhaps a little towards the bright, the décor is certainly luxurious. One lovely little detail is the electronic touch pad Do Not Disturb sign, so you can livernout a brief Star Trek gadget fantasy before collapsing back into the Ottoman Empire and the deep feathery heaven of your bed. The outdoor terrace bar and restaurant has great views over the Caspian and back to Baku too, thoughrnthe kitchen is not yet open, so the food remains untested.
