Golfe do Estoril

One of Lisbon’s most demanding golf courses, Golfe do Estoril is where the Portuguese Open was held between 1953 and 1972 and again in 1987. Uneven terrain makes the 18-hole (par-69) course a challenge for golfers. The first nine holes were designed by Jean Gassiat in 1929 and the rest later completed by Mackenzie Ross; the 16th is considered to be the best hole in Portugal. It’s members-only at weekends, although non-members can use a nine-hole (par-34) course. The A5 motorway now crosses the course. Facilities include a driving-range, putting green, restaurant, bar, swimming pool and golf shop. Take the Estoril exit on the A5 and follow signs to Sintra.
