This wonderful, tiny, ramshackle and cluttered little boozer is a glorious spot for anyone keen to try out Dutch and Belgian beers at their best. The space is cosy, forcing chat among punters whether they’re huddled around the bar or parked precariously at the dinky tables on the dinky mezzanine. Watch out for the house dog too, when making your way around. His black coat makes him easy to step on. The bar is stocked with a couple of hundred different ales, the vast majority of which come from Belgium. If your choice of sauce isn’t immediately visible at one of the taps, scour the blackboards that ring the upper walls and offer a swathe of curious names and potent percentages. If in doubt, just start at the top and work your way down (though this will take a great many visits to get through).
