Gordon House South
When considering places to stay in Mumbai, it’s all about location, location, location. Tucked away on a little lane just behind the iconic Taj Mahal Palace & Tower, guests at Gordon House South enjoy prime position in the centre of town. The property, named after a trader who landed on India’s shores in the 1900s, is a rarity in Mumbai as this is somewhere yet to cotton-on to the appeal of boutique properties.
Immaculately clean and manned by an extremely helpful staff – including a charming manager who will go out of his way to help each and every guest – it’s worth snagging a room in advance to avoid disappointment. The rates include buffet breakfast and free WiFi. The rooms at Gordon House South are spread across three sumptuously-designed floors: the Mediterranean floor has stucco walls, tiled floors and crisp white linens; the country-style floor has pinewood floors and a ‘Little House on the Prairie’ vibe; and the Scandinavian floor is full of clean lines, wooden floors and sleek furniture.
The lobby sees an eclectic mix pass through, from Jewish diamond dealers to South African flash-packers and city slickers. All in all, a lovely refuge.
