Hg2 : The Hedonist

Grace Hotel

It’s since been refurbished, but the gorgeous Art Deco features of the Grace Hotel, such as stained-glass insignias, ceiling lamps and terrazzo floors, make this one of the classic hotels in Sydney. Rooms are smart and hued with a tawny colour palette, hardwood writing desks and chenille sofas, along with king-sized beds with feather comforters and 32-inch flatscreen televisions. Not a fan of earthy tones? The hotel has a new concept called the 10 Rooms package, offering travellers the option of tailoring décor, style or even the colour scheme, with added luxuries depending on your mood – like an in-room espresso machine if you need an energy boost, or luxurious spa products if you need pampering. There’s little else in the way of facilities, however, the Grace Café downstairs commands a people-watching corner post. Be warned; the hotel is perfectly placed for credit card destruction – it’s only a few steps away from the city’s department stores and the new Westfield shopping mall, and is dangerously close to King Street Wharf bars and restaurants. There’s also a small arcade on the lower ground floor with a beauty bar for eyebrow tidies and pedicures.
