Grand Central Oyster Bar

Some things simply must be done, like getting a counter seat beneath the grand, arched white-tiled ceiling in Grand Central’s below-ground level Oyster Bar for a bowl of rich, gold-standard bouillabaisse or, as the name would rightly suggest, a dozen or so of their dizzying array of oysters. It certainly pleases Bar Boulud chef Damian Sansonetti, who, when asked where he likes to rendezvous in secret, answered, “the Taco truck by my apartment or the Grand Central Oyster Bar to shoot down a few dozen oysters with champagne.” The wine list spans Old and New World, and even gives a few nods to the drink local/eat local tenet, with vino from Upstate and Long Island, as well as several kinds of oysters from the latter part of the world. Sit at the sprawling bar or in the dining room at one of the red-check clothed tables, tuck a napkin over your tie, and get yourself a pile of Long Island steamers or Maryland soft.
