Having hosted some of the biggest-name DJs and the iconic former Sounds on Sunday parties, it’s hardly surprising that this is one of the clubs in Sydney that unfailingly lures revellers by the hundreds. Those Sunday shenanigans finished a while ago, but the Greenie still pulls the crowds for special events like Twilight Sounds, Sounds on Boxing Day or Sounds on New Year’s Day. If you manage to get to one of these you won’t be disappointed. It’s an impressive venue – set inside a restored former school (and chapel) with gorgeous sandstone walls and a huge outdoor area framed by the surrounding high-rise buildings. There are four bars, drinks are relatively cheap and the crowd is up for it. Special events lure the big-name acts and tend to focus on house and funk DJs, with chilled-out house and retro beats on Thursdays and Fridays.
