One of the most striking things about Grodan’s basement Cocktail Club is the stark contrast with the elegant gourmet restaurant upstairs. Down here the décor is almost sinful: a red glow engulfs both the main bar and the more intimate underground dens leading off it. It feels altogether more grown up, and the space overflows with those who have left Kharma and other more fun-loving nightclubs in pursuit of ‘serious’ house music and less frivolous chat.

rnNevertheless, as its name suggests, rainbow cocktails flow readily among the otherwise more serious goings-on, and these ensure that, come 2am, no one’s too cool not to dance. If, after a couple of hours, this less amiable ambience becomes too much of an effort, moving on won’t be a problem.
