The modern-day Marcello Mastroiannis are probably on the other side of the river in Trastevere but the DJs at H Club Doney make this one of the great places to drink in Rome. They turn the beat around with a surprisingly good toe-tapping selection of tunes to galvanize you through a few rounds of Martinis at least. Following the template of the Milanese outpost, the bar boasts chandeliers and glam-rock black leather and zebra furnishings as a backdrop for getting you elegantly wasted. The crowd can be slightly mixed – you’ll find trendy Romans as well as some uncertain high-rolling tourist types from the hotel next door – but don’t let that put you off. Thursday nights are the musical appointment not to miss, when international DJs regularly claim the decks.
