Hg2 : The Hedonist

Light years from Right Bank swank, this tiny, freestyle corner wine bar near Bastille is decked with cushions of many colours, and low tables and chairs of the recycled/make-do-and mend variety, thanks to the Senegalese artist who had a hand in the design.

Chez Habibi has bags of scruffy charm, which suits its crowd of regulars perfectly, and it’s often packed, even more so on live-music nights and for the patron’s wine-tasting evenings.

To accompany the short but lipsmacking list of wines by the glass, pichet and bottle, you can order tapas, Provençal vegetable tart, Corsican and Catalan charcuterie, Thai and Indian plats du jour and puddings like fruity clafoutis or chocolate moelleux.
