Hg2 : The Hedonist

Hard Rock

Owner Peter Morton loves his rock ‘n’ roll, and his passion is reflected throughout his Vegas hotel, The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Lighting fixtures are Zildjian cymbals; elevators are inscribed with snarky musicians’ quotes; chandeliers are fashioned from saxophones; gaming tables have faux piano keyboards on the ends; the pools have an underwater sound system so you don’t miss a beat; and the rooms and hallways are hung with fabulous photos of rock artists. It’s a Mecca for cool that, even a few blocks removed from the Strip, manages to be the heart and soul of the Las Vegas party. Guys here (oddly, there does seem to be a disproportionate number of guys) sport perfectly-gelled hair and tinted glasses; gals strut around in backless halters and enticing low-riders. Ask for a Strip-view room to keep your eye on the action. The Hard Rock runs two shuttles to various locales on the Strip (and back) on the hour and every half-hour until 9:30pm. Action, action, action-and we’re not talking about cards. Cooler-than-thou 20-somethings come for the shows at the Joint, to soothe their hangovers while looking at bikini-clad beautiful people on Rehab Sundays, and for sushi at Nobu any night of the week. L.A. hipsters and those who love them make a party come to life everywhere any day-from the bar in the middle of the casino, to upstairs in the penthouse suite with Vegas’s first bowling alley.
