The mumma of London’s department stores comes with a caveat – as the UK’s biggest shop (at 1 million sq ft), it’s one massive maze crawling with tourists and arrivistes. There are 23 restaurants and countless (OK, 330 to be precise) different departments including fashion, furniture, food, sports, antiques and toys, not to mention two Dodi and Diana memorials (though maybe they’ll go now that Al Fayed has sold up for £1.5 billion). Just opposite is the new Harrods 102, selling ‘gourmet food on the go’. Undoubtedly, Harrods’ best (and cheapest) angle is from the outside after dark, when its splendid terracotta facade sparkles with 11,500 lightbulbs.
