Harry Denton’s Starlight Room – one of the strangest nightclubs in San Francisco nightclubs – is a nightly party in opulent, Vienna opera house-style surroundings, serenaded by the Starlight Orchestra and its dance-friendly jazz, Motown, disco, and soul hits. Few places invite couples past their twenties to shake their proverbial booties, let alone snuggle up for a romantic slow dance. Harry’s does both with style. Seize the opportunity to try a Cable Car, its signature concoction with cinnamon and brandy. The dress code – no jeans, no sports attire – is strictly enforced. Drenched in red velvet and Liberace pomp, the chandelier-lit Starlight Room serves those looking for romance and a spectacular view. If there’s not a frosty martini or a flute of champagne in your hand shortly after you arrive, something’s wrong. An older (forty-something), more subdued, and yet still well-dressed crowd hits the Starlight Room. Look for more suits than tattoos, more couples than singles.
