Hash House Harriers
There are two very active chapters of the Hash House Harriers (aka HHH or H3) – an international collective of unlinked organisations (or perhaps better, disorganisations) who meet and run or walk a marked trail, set by the GMs, or Grand Masters, in a tradition dating back to Malaysia in the 1930s. Originally set up as a means to run off the weekend’s excesses, these days the re-tox social aspect is almost as important a part of the Hash as the detox at the 1,700 or so chapters, or kennels, of HHH worldwide. The very active and sociable Baku Hash is no exception and far and away the best regular event for meeting people and making new friends among the ex-pat and ex-pat friendly local community. Thursdays Hash (Thursday) is for runners only – email firstname.lastname@example.org for more on that. But there is a walkers’ version (email@example.com) of the HHH who would be able to put you inrntouch with hikers, should you wish to arrange a bespoke hike. Bernaware that packs of wild dogs are a very real problem in many areas, rnand groups are often advised to carry stun-guns or cattle prods forrnpersonal protection, though a few well-aimed stones should also do therntrick. You have been warned.
