Hergetova Cihelna
A younger sibling of the legendary Kampa Park, the fun-to-pronounce Hergetova Cihelná has managed to make an impression on the Prague restaurant scene on its own terms. While it shares Kampa Park’s stunning views of Charles Bridge and the Old Town, its menu and concept differ. Set up as a bar/lounge and restaurant, the emphasis has been subtly shifted from dining to socialising, although there’s certainly no shirking on the quality, presentation or flavour of the food.
rn
rnThe restaurant itself is spread over two floors. Upstairs is a separate pizzeria; downstairs there’s a long bar, main dining room and gorgeous terrace, which comes alive in the summer when DJs turn up and weave designer soundtracks. The building itself dates from the 18th century and used to be a brick factory (cihelná), but is now decorated with modern yet comfortable furnishings by top Czech designer Barbora Skorpilová.
rn
rnThe menu is, inevitably, an eclectic combination of tastes, merging the flavours of the Far East with those of Italy and Central Europe. Like Kampa Park, Cihelná draws a sophisticated crowd of movers and shakers, although dining here tends to be a surprisingly relaxed and unpretentious experience.
