Schuim is a curious combination of bar and art gallery, and in this instance, the combination works. It’s a tatty old spot, which looks like it hasn’t been well cared for, but much of that is a deliberate nod to an artsy vibe. The punters tend to be creative types themselves, and there’s a really laid-back, unpretentious feel to the bar, which isn’t always true when art and alcohol mix. It’s a big space, which can occasionally make it feel faceless as the combined chatter clanks around the high walls, but this space also offers comfort – large comfy seats and tables making it a good spot to gather a few people together. The exhibitions vary on a fairly regular basis and there tends to be a focus on local (or at least locally-based) talent.
