Historic New Orleans Collection
The Historic New Orleans Collection is ideal for those with a yearning to know more. The late Kemper Williams was a passionate collector of art, artefacts, and documents related to Louisiana. He endowed a foundation to care for his collection, and now the Historic New Orleans Collection offers a cornucopia of interesting artefacts for the curious. Visit the gallery on Royal Street and the additional collections and galleries in the two adjoining houses. Serious students of history should ask to visit the archives on Chartres Street. Williams’ own house, built in the 18th century but decorated in mid-century modern style, is as interesting as the displays. The collection also hosts conferences and publishes books of local historical interest. The main exhibit and the research centre are free. Tours of the history gallery and the house museum are $5 each.
