Hg2 : The Hedonist

Home Burger Bar

In the post-Super Size Me world you would think that fast food was on its way out, but these American diner style restaurants in Madrid, confusingly called Home, offer all-organic burgers, served with crunchy fries that are so irresistible that you’ll start on your partner’s plate should it arrive first.

The French-Canadian entrepreneur behind the Home venture have attended to every detail, from the diner-style interior and the boxy cutlery to the brown-paper grocery bags that serve as menus – all that’s missing is wait staff in red gingham aprons.
rnThe burgers are spectacular, although be warned, as is usual in Spain, the meat comes rare unless you specify. The crowd is a mixture of the tattooed and pierced punkies who populate the shops and bars of the area, plus the suited crew from nearby offices.
rnThe only downside are the acoustics – the curved ceilings and wood panelling mean that not a decibel of sound is absorbed anywhere, meaning that once the place is full, the noise of chatter is enough to damage your eardrums. But then after all, junk food restaurants are supposed to be bad for your health.
