Horisont Restaurant

If you’re looking to dine somewhere with a view in Tallinn, the first place you should try to get a reservation is Horisont Restaurant. Perched on the top floor of the luxurious Swissôtel Tallinn, the huge expanses of window here take in the UNESCO World-Heritage listed Medieval Old Town, all the way out to the glimmer of the Baltic Sea beyond. And the view is pretty much uninterrupted seeing as how the hotel itself occupies the highest building in the city. It’s memorable to say the least around sunset. The food is, too.

Modern and playful, dishes are largely European in inspiration, with plenty of meat and seafood options, from quail with sautéed mushrooms to halibut and king crab served with a lemongrass velouté. You can also expect the odd vegetarian plate here and there, like the aubergine starter that comes served with a piquant goat’s cheese ice cream, tomato chutney and baked garlic. There’s also a truncated menu of the restaurant’s offerings over in the bar area, if you’re more in the mood for cocktails and tunes than elegant sit-down dining in the colourful, velvet-upholstered Horisont Restaurant.
