The only hotel in Barceloneta village, 54 has a distinctive character all of its own and feels somehow cut off from the rest of the city, surrounded by seafood restaurants and poky bars selling freshly grilled fish and mouthwatering tapas. The hotel is also just around the corner from Barceloneta’s iconic new market, which houses the Michelin Star Lluçanès restaurant. But you need not venture out of the hotel for some of the finest tapas in town thanks to Pinotxo tapas bar famous in the Boquería market and now handling the bar menu at the hotel. The building which was once a Fisherman’s Club, has sweeping views from the rooftop terrace chill out lounge across the harbour and Port Vell. Designed by Alfredo Vidal, the fresh boutique hotel has only 28 rooms each with floor to ceiling glass walls maximising sea views with the option of changing the mood and colour of the recessed lighting. Upbeat staff offer warm and relaxed service and plenty of tips on where to go and even what to wear. The downstairs basement club houses one of the few decent live music venues left in Barcelona, Suite Royale which used to be located just off the Plaça Real.
