If decidedly urban relaxation is your thing—and yes, there is such a thing—the Hôtel Americano should fit your bill, and then some. Steps away from the High Line’s north entrance, art galleries aplenty, and a host of chic restaurants and nightlife destinations (West 27th has played host to many a velvet rope, including Bungalow 8 and Pink Elephant), Hôtel Americano glimmers invitingly next door to former home of super-nightclub Twilo. It’s the first US offering from Mexican boutique hotel group Grupo Habita, and like its south-of-the-border sister hotels the Americano speaks to modern comfort while sidestepping the more frivolous trends in the industry.
All three room types—Uptown Studio, Uptown Queen, and Downtown King—offer chic seating, great light, handsome beds on wooden platforms (which are so darn sexy and comfortable), and certain rooms feature fireplaces and soaking tubs. Lobby restaurant Americano is a chic little French-Latin fusion eatery, serving in a patio area and rooftop space when it’s warm—though you may just opt for the comfort food Bento Box room service. Its rooftop pool is a tiny slice of heaven, complete with an on-site Mediterranean grill (during summer months). Meanwhile, subterranean Bar Americano and private room El Privado offer glitzy environments to sip and flirt.
