Hotel Arena is a nice retreat for travellers wanting to avoid the hectic centre, and has enough nearby for the eager explorer. The area around Artis Zoo is packed with eateries and green areas like the Hortus garden and Oosterpark. And, since it’s just a bit out of the centre, you won’t trip over hundreds of bumbling tourists. In the summer, this comes as a particular blessing. By tram or bike you’ll be on Dam Square in fifteen minutes. Most rooms are spacious, with high ceilings and windows, and the more expensive ones even go over two floors. The interiors are white and square combined with light brown tones, giving a bright contemporary feel. The bar, nightclub and restaurant feel a bit warmer, but retain features from when the building was an orphanage. But the biggest advantage is the price, which is very reasonable compared to hotels in the centre.
