Hôtel de l’Abbaye
Located prestigiously in one of the city’s covetable courtyards, down a quiet street in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, the Hôtel de l’Abbaye has been run by the same independent owner since its opening in 1973. Decor is discreetly updated every few years, but remains Paris-trad, with stripes, chintz, toiles, landscapes, busts and well-upholstered armchairs. The 44 rooms are surprisingly spacious given the densely built location, and the courtyard garden makes for idyllic summer drinking, with a firelit bar doing the job cosily in winter. So much love and care has been put into running this hotel, it’s hard to believe it carries only three stars.
