Surrounded by an absolute locus of activity, Hotel España could not be any closer to Barcelona’s attractions if it tried. Right next to La Rambla and with the Gran Teatre de Liceu and the Gothic quarter within reaching distance, you won’t struggle for where to start. Having said that, once you’ve stepped into Hotel España itself you may never want to leave – having undergone a renovation in 2010, the fresh modern feel combined with the ornate classicism of a 19th Century building is inspiring. Each room is as luxurious as the last, while the hotel’s Bar Arnau displays Eusebi Arnau’s exquisite hand crafted alabaster fireplace. An outdoor pool and sun terrace add to España’s lure, and it has all the standard business facilities. As is expected, you can’t find such a top location in the heart of the action without the city’s street hum, but for those looking for quality alongside culture this is a sure fire winner.
