Hotel Mont Blanc

Once one of the most prestigious hotels in Megeve, the Mont Blanc, right in the heart of the town, had fallen into disrepair and has now been revamped by the Sibuet group, also responsible for Les Fermes de Marie. So luminescent was its crown that it was the hotel of choice of the French cultural elite – Brigitte Bardot, Josephine Baker and Charles Aznavour – but most evident is Jean Cocteau who decorated a tearoom whose many photos, paintings and drawings are still in situ. The whole place exudes a rustic chic, the wooden walls and floors are offset by deep, warm-coloured furnishings and period furniture combining influences from England, Austria and the Savoyard locale. Downstairs the Georges lounge manages to be both snug and stylish and the preserve of the visiting luminaries, while the principle restaurant, Les Enfants Terribles, is shared with Les Fermes de Marie and produces modern haute cuisine using locally sourced produce. Rounded off by the Pure Altitude spa – the Hotel Mont Blanc has reclaimed its place in the affections of French society.
