Hotel on Rivington
If you don’t ever want to leave your room but still see the city, Hotel on Rivington should be your first pick thanks to an unobstructed 360-degree view – the winning view of all hotels in New York. In a first for the rapidly gentrifying Lower East Side – long known for its tenements, alternative culture, and dingy urban authenticity – a prominent, glass-encased tower, 21 stories high, lures high-design enthusiasts, artistically inclined big spenders, and lovers of all things new and noteworthy to this unlikely neighborhood for a super-luxurious stay, complete with many feasts for the eyes. The Hotel on Rivington offers dramatic cityscapes through floor-to-ceiling windows, spacious guest rooms (many of which have balconies), and gorgeous interiors courtesy of Parisian interior designer India Mahdavi, who went for a tranquil, timeless look. Black or beige velvet sofas and chairs, Frette linen-topped Swedish Tempur-pedic mattresses, futuristic chrome tables, flat-screen TVs, two-person Japanese soaking tubs, glass-walled shower walls, pet-friendly floors, just scratch the surface of futuristic offerings (and there’s a nice selection of wines in the minibar). The Italian mosaic Bisazza tile bathrooms – stocked with Ren of London products – are sleek and breathtaking. Luxury boutique Annie O. resides downstairs, as does the boundary-defying bistro Thor.
