Hotel Panache
Found in the 9th arrondissement, the Hotel Panache is a glamorous place to stay that’s within easy distance of everything from the Galeries Lafayette Department Store to the cabaret, the Folies Bergère and the Palais Garnier.
The rooms themselves (of which there are 40) are often quirky shapes, thanks to the shape of the building. But designer Dorothée Meilichzon turned this into a feature, not a failure of the design. There are softly curved, almost Art Deco-esque shapes throughout, from plump grey armchairs and rounded mirrors to metal headboards set against patterned wallpaper. The rooms feature vintage light fixtures and a chic, muted colour palette, with the subtle gleam of metal accents, which, combined, make it both ultra-trendy, and comfy.
In the beautifully-tiled guest bathrooms, meanwhile, there are Bonne Nouvelle products, which are delicately perfumed with coriander, verbena, and blackberries. Elsewhere at the Hotel Panache, guests will find a restaurant by David Lanher that continues with the hotel’s already established use of elegant furniture and colour. Velvets abound in shades of petrol blue and gleaming rust, with geometric patterns on the walls and bulbous lights. For lunch, there’s a formula menu, but it expands during the dinner service to include all manner of delicious dishes, like veal carpaccio, octopus with chickpeas, and parsnip velouté. To enjoy alongside, there’s a menu of natural wines, beers and cocktails, which both guests and locals happily avail themselves of week-round.
