Roemer is a little different to most of the hotels that line this architecturally delightful straat. While most around here have emphasised the 18th or 19th century structure with some suitably old school design flourishes, Roemer is all slick and modern. The rooms are all dark wood and white linen, with flashes or colour in the form of big pop art canvases or giddy rugs (and the odd cow hide). It’s a boutique, but part of a small chain (the same people behind Hotel Vondel), so has a bit more slickness to it (and a bit less homeliness) than a one off. There’s also a beautiful terrace that catches quite a bit of daytime sun (when it shines). Leidseplein is a two minute walk away, but the centre is 15 minutes or so by bike.
