Hotel V’s design philosophy is a tad eclectic. Guests sleep in king size Auping beds, but have a vintage chair next to them. The computers in the lobby are shiny white iMacs, the table they’re standing on is Ikea’s. But it all works, and the result is funky, unique and warm. Another plus is the location, between the canal belt and popular De Pijp, which draws a young working crowd. The staff are friendly, well informed and willing to point the adventurous traveller to the latest hotspots in town. Rooms vary in size (small to extra large), but the interior – wooden wall behind the bed, a piece of vintage furniture and separate bathroom – is the same. If you don’t want to be woken up by the busy traffic in the street, ask for a room in the back. A comfortable stay at a reasonable price.
