Hundred Acres
When the clever culinary minds behind the New York restaurants Five Points and Cookshop offer something new, we snap to attention, knowing we’re in for a smart, soulful dining experience. Located on MacDougal (which has suddenly become a hotbed of trendy restaurants), Hundred Acres is all that and plenty more. The cuisine, conceived by co-owner Marc Meyer and chef Joel Hough, is pleasurably pared-down, drawing on the bounty of each season and creating harmonious interplay between flavors. Beautiful and earthy – it’s the restaurant equivalent of a freshly scrubbed hippie girlfriend – they have incorporated the down home cooking philosophy into the décor, using simple fruits and wine bottles to decorate. Particularly pleasant (and popular) is brunch, with homey choices like warn cream biscuits and banana walnut bread with honey butter, semolina-raisin French toast, and the overflowing Quesadilla Gringo.
