Ibrahim Pasa Hotel

One of the best small hotels in Sultanahmet, the Ibrahim Pasa Hotel is an old, four-storey, late Ottoman house given a thorough, contemporary going-over. Tastefully, the management has neither ruined the period feel of the building by trying too hard nor omitted to add contemporary features. A cosy fireplace and well-worn leather sofa greets guests on entrance. The dozen standard and dozen deluxe rooms may be modern but each one has enough Sultanahmet kookiness to let you know you’re around the corner from both the Hagia Sophia and the Topkapi Palace – many have weird slopey ceilings and cracking views over town. Attractively-tiled and patterned floors set the visual tone throughout, highlighted by the odd bit of statuary or large ornamental pot. The roof terrace overlooking the Blue Mosque is absolutely spectacular.
